Promise Keeper

“The Lord kept His word and did for Sarah exactly what He had promised.” Genesis 21:1 (NLT)

Has the Lord ever promised you something that sounded highly unlikely, absurd, or even humourous? Sometimes, when God says some things, our human mind just cannot begin to understand. His promises seem to be out of this world. What’s more is that God not only makes promises, but He is also careful to fulfil them.

Sarah had her own experience with the Promise Keeper as recorded in Genesis 18 & 21. God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would have a son. At that time, they were both very old. Laughing within herself, Sarah said, “An old woman like me? Get pregnant? With this old man of a husband?” (Genesis 18:12 – MSG). To Sarah, her body was shriveled up and worn out. Notwithstanding all that, God said, “I’ll be back about this time next year and Sarah will have a baby.” (Verse 14). God’s promise superseded Sarah’s human reasoning and wildest imagination.

In keeping with His promise-keeping nature, God visited Sarah exactly as He said He would and did to Sarah what He promised. Sarah became pregnant and gave Abraham a son in his old age, at the very time God had set. Many times, God’s promises are incomprehensible to us, but once God says it, it will come true. Is anything too hard for God?

What has God promised you: peace of mind, good health, salvation for your entire family, children from the womb, jobs, better jobs, raises, bonuses, your own home, expansion of your borders, scholarships? God’s promises are many, surpassing our wildest dreams, highest expectations, greatest imagination, and current situation. Be assured, once God has said it, He will surely do it. “I watch over My word to accomplish it,” He says (Jeremiah 1:12 – HCSB)
